Sneak Preview of Sermons 2008-2009
I thought our Resurrection members might enjoy getting a sneak peak at the sermon plan we’ve been working on for the next 18 months. Keep in mind the titles to the series will change, and you’re missing the ideas and sermon detail that help make these sermons compelling. That information is part of the 15 page plan. Some of you will recognize your sermon series ideas in this plan. For others, your ideas may be incorporated into the sermons for 2010. Here are some of the sermon series I’ll likely be preaching in the coming year:
Wild Kingdom - What do an African Safari and the spiritual life share in common? You’ll find out in this series as we move beyond a tame and tepid faith to one that is a lifelong adventure.
Reset - We’ll examine the places in our lives where we need to reset, recalibrate and realign.
The Virgin Mary - We’ll explore every passage of scripture on Mary’s life. Through the study of her life, we will better understand God’s will for our own lives. This is an Advent series that will prepare us to celebrate Christmas with greater meaning.
unChristian - 40% of all young adults have opted out of the church, turning away from Christianity in unprecedented numbers. They haven’t rejected Jesus as much as they have the way Christians have represented Christ. We’ll look at what young adults have said about why they’ve left the church and what must change in order to connect with them.
Jesus as Matthew Knew Him - As a congregation we’ll read together the Gospel of Matthew and spend six weeks reflecting on the message of his gospel.
Confessions of a Struggling Parent - A three week series on parenting and how the Bible offers us guidelines and hope.
Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat - a series of sermons climaxing in our music ministries’ production of this Broadway favorite.
The Seven Deadly Sins - a look at those sins the church has historically considered the most damaging to our souls.
Nehemiah: Finishing What Was Started - a series looking at the spiritual and leadership lessons found in this wonderful book of the Bible.
Deepening Your Spiritual Life - a series focused on six of the classic spiritual practices that have historically been used to help people grow in their faith.
Questions Thinking Christians Ask - a series addressing the thorniest theological and spiritual questions Christians have today: the Trinity, predestination, perplexing Bible passages and more.
Will I preach all of these series? Probably not. But most will be preached in the church in the next 18 months in the hope of helping us together to grow in our faith, reach new people for Christ, and prepare us to serve God in the world.
