Hello, Ian - keep in mind that anyone can submit a petition to General Conference and that most petitions are voted down. I am not sure what the petitioner really had in mind with this petition but I know that it was originally submitted to the Kansas East Conference this way and then withdrawn after a number of people expressed concern along the lines you are suggesting. I'm confident the General Conference will not decide that it's okay for a pastor to have an affair. Thanks for following the actions of the conference and reading my blog!

80840 Is a little troubling. The homosexuality issue aside (which is its own can of worms), striking unmarried celibacy or marital infidelity from the list of chargeable offenses under "immorality" is very disturbing, especially coming out of our own conference.
