“How should we live?” is a different question than, “How should our government tell us to live.” Jesus ethics were to stand up for the poor, sick, women, and children. Those set aside by the governments of his time. I think it’s important to see how he did it. He didn’t go to the governments and run for office, He didn’t try to over throw the religious sects. He took his case to the people. He told them (us) how to live their lives to please God and to enter into his Kingdom. He led by example. He came among the sinners, to heal, to give forgiveness and to show us how to love. I believe this is how he wants us to live our lives. The problem is when you have government controlling programs it takes the burden off the people. It removes the responsibility for caring for our neighbors because someone else will, or taking care of our environment because the government is going to tell you how to do it. We the people had been put in charge of the animals and our environment. We need to do more to protect it from our waste. I truly believe we need to do more. I just don’t believe that the government can do it effectively. I mean in about 7 years we will have all new problems to deal with. Like what are we going to do with all the mercury filled light bulbs (that we will be required to use) when all of our fluorescent bulbs burn out. Look at all the programs that our government are already involved in. One of the Canidates said "we need to get the easy things done before we look at the nuances in the bible." I agree with that but it should be applied to politics too.
